Solo Piano Arrangement: Voyager - V6

[livejournal.com profile] kaychung I DID IT I FINALLY DID IT I FINISHED IT. :D (Tell me if you want another arrangement for guitar.)

I started this roughly two weeks ago because I got completely and utterly obsessed with Voyager. And then I went and listened to other V6 songs and watched some of their shows and got the Voyager album and whatnot and it took a while for me to sit down and finally finish it instead of all the stuff I promised my friends I'd do. And here are the fruits of my labour!

That sounded much more impressive than it really is...

It might sound awkward since there are a lot of synthesized sounds and more extra parts in Voyager than I could replicate in a somewhat easy-to-play manner (since I did most of it actually at the piano rather than my usual mess-around-on-Finale method), but it's not too bad. ^^"

Download Link (MU)

The sustain pedal is your friend. :D

The .rar file contains a PDF of the sheet music and an MP3 of Finale playing the music back to me. I'm lazy so I don't have any dynamics marked in, but I trust you all know how the song goes. :D There might also be discrepancies between the recording and the PDF because I made changes after recording it and got too lazy to do it again, so sorry for that.

Comments are nice but not necessary, though I would appreciate any feedback people have after playing the piece to sort out kinks and stuff. Other than that, I'm just looking to jump into this fandom a little more (though with school approaching it's probably not the best idea). So yeah. Maybe I'll do another song soon, though I don't think I'll be able to get another one out...

YAYAYAY! Downloading NOW.

[identity profile] fluidcomplexity.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Tell me if it sounds okay?

I should link this somewhere soon.

[identity profile] kaychung.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds great! Not on the guitar though. xD

[identity profile] fluidcomplexity.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Well I can't help it. XD Maybe I'll make a duet.

[identity profile] amarylliszai.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Hi there,

I heard it and i think they are good. You must have a sharp ears and a talent ^_^.

But they are not really following voyager right? I mean when i hear the begiining, they do make think of voyager but towards the end, it doesn't. BUT Its good. To be able to make an arrangement and first time i saw a piano score (see one before but never from an person that i indirectly know - LOL through LJ), you do it from scratch right?

[identity profile] fluidcomplexity.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
I admit, this was actually really hard for me to arrange because of the ambiguity of Voyager in some parts (like the end) where it's just a bunch of parts mushed together which really doesn't sound good on piano, as well as the fact that Finale (the program I use to write the sheet music) and its playback function isn't ideal. I'll probably try and fix it once I leave it for a bit and come back to it.

When I make sheet music, I basically hit the loop function and listen to the song a few times and make sure I have some sort of idea of how I want to do it. Then I write down the melody and then add bass and all the other stuff, and then I run to the piano and play a bit of it. So yeah, this was from scratch, I guess you could say. (And isn't LJ just amazing? Something new every day! :D)

But thank you for your feedback! ^^

[identity profile] amarylliszai.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
I understand zero of the process and the hardwork into it since i'm in this line or have interest in it. But nevertheless good job ^_^. Hope to hear more from you...though when i glance through ur LJ, there are others...i go and try to listen to them ^_^.

[identity profile] xxgardenxx.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
Wow! Having dabbled a bit in Finale, I can say that if it sounds even halfway decent with Finale's output, it's a good composition XD (And this was definitely more than halfway decent, btw :D)

Thank you for sharing! I hope you do get more into V6 fandom and have the chance to do some more eventually, I love those boys' songs (though most don't necessarily lend themselves to solo piano interpretations... LOL)

[identity profile] fluidcomplexity.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for your kind words! I really do hope I get more into the fandom and actually dig up a song to do... I'm thinking that if I do anything it might be way of life, straight from the piano version (because then I don't have to do a lot of awkward arranging for the left hand XD).

[identity profile] tesamae.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
thanks so much for this! now i have more reasons to buy an organ ^_^

[identity profile] fluidcomplexity.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
An organ?! I'm jealous, I've always wanted to play on the foot pedals of an organ...

[identity profile] charingyu.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 09:55 am (UTC)(link)
YAY YAY YAY!!! voyager is a great song!

[identity profile] fluidcomplexity.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
:D I know, right?

Thank you for stopping by!

[identity profile] 42detsune.livejournal.com 2009-08-27 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
I love "Voyager", and this endeavor of yours is wondrous. :) I don't play myself, but maybe I can gather my courage to ask a friend to play for me. ^^

"Jump into the fandom"? If there's anything I or the family at [livejournal.com profile] v6_unlimited can do, please ask. :)

[identity profile] fluidcomplexity.livejournal.com 2009-08-27 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you for your kind words! I actually tried to make it simpler (for my sake mostly), so it shouldn't be too out of the way to ask a friend to play it if they're fairly skilled. That, and this song is love anyways, right? Spread the love, I say.

And thank you in advance! I'll keep it in mind. I must say, they're an interesting dynamic. ^^

[identity profile] saraufc.livejournal.com 2009-08-27 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Taking right away! Love V6m love Voyager and love piano renditions! Thanks so much for sharing! If you feel like, please do more renditions in the future ^^

[identity profile] fluidcomplexity.livejournal.com 2009-08-27 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I think I will. :D

[identity profile] sidevocalist.livejournal.com 2009-08-28 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
This is too scary chordy for me to attempt. Or rather I'm too lazy to play all those chords xD

Yay for MegaUpload downloading and the file opening though~. I think this is a sign of recovery for my laptop. =D

Anyhow. I'm asking you, oh knowledgeable Nessa, how does one go about making a pdf file from PrintMusic? D= I can't seem to figure it out - I can only get TIFF images, midi files, and mus >_>.

[identity profile] fluidcomplexity.livejournal.com 2009-08-29 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
It's not that bad, really. :D The chords aren't nearly as heavy as my last one.

Mr. Potter... is now entering his twenties? XD

And do you have a PDF conversion program? Because that's what I'm using. It's one of those where it's listed as a printer and you 'print' it in order to convert it.

[identity profile] sidevocalist.livejournal.com 2009-08-29 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
...It looks like a lot. =|

XDDD

...I don't think so? D= What's the one you use? All I have in my printers is my normal printer and this Image Converter thing.

[identity profile] fluidcomplexity.livejournal.com 2009-08-29 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
The thing is, all the left hand stuff is either broken or just an octave and a fifth.

:D

It's called CutePDF. You have an image converter? Hm...

[identity profile] sidevocalist.livejournal.com 2009-08-29 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
...XD I guess, I guess. But it's still intimidating (and I've had enough of chords for a while >_>).

CutePDF? Does it leave a watermark? 'Cause I used to have PDFfactory but then it said PDFfactory at the bottom of every page >_>

[identity profile] fluidcomplexity.livejournal.com 2009-08-30 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Meh. I like broken chord left hands... XD

Well, I've made all my stuff with CutePDF so far and you don't see anything in the corner, do you? ^^" At least, I don't. XD

[identity profile] j-linker444.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
hey... i listened to it days ago and its good! I have no talent in piano but i had always wanted to learn... :)

btw... do you know 20th Century's "Ai ni Ikou"? -- It's a great recommend and it has piano notes which are posted here in v6daisuki's journal: http://v6daisuki.livejournal.com/16937.html#cutid1

[identity profile] fluidcomplexity.livejournal.com 2009-09-09 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you for your kind words! ^^

I'm looking at it right now and it looks interesting. If I can master all the words and the playing at the same time, I would totally do a cover. XD Well, we'll see. Thank you for directing me! :D

[identity profile] liangzhu.livejournal.com 2009-09-13 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
Interesting~ I generally fail at transcribing because I'm easily distracted and discouraged when there are so many different parts involved, so thank you for this! I might try it out on the viola and see how it goes...

Other than that, I'm just looking to jump into this fandom a little more (though with school approaching it's probably not the best idea).
And I just have to comment on this, because I smartly decided to follow up some latent curiosity about V6 two weeks into the school year, and it is wreaking havoc with my sleeping habits (curse all their bajillion TV shows). So... good luck! :D

[identity profile] fluidcomplexity.livejournal.com 2009-09-13 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for stopping by! If you ever record you playing it with the viola, do let me give it a listen. I admire strings players very much. XD

I'm trying! At least I started early and managed to rip through a good bunch of their stuff before school started up. Now I have to wake up at 6:30 every morning so I'm trying to adjust... but thanks for the luck, I think I'll need it. :D
